Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research

  • The Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research Certificate serves a growing need for the training of skilled therapist researchers who will ideally seek advanced training for future FDA-approved psychedelic-assisted and entactogen-assisted psychotherapy research. Research therapists in this field are sometimes termed sitters or guides. Enrollees will be specific licensed or licensable professionals in mental health and medicine or eligible ordained/commissioned clergy and chaplains.

Fluence

  • Fluence is a psychedelic education project of Liberty Psychological Services, PLLC, a private psychological services company fully owned and operated by Dr. Ingmar Gorman and Dr. Elizabeth Nielson. They offer trainings independently and in collaboration with a variety of clinics, conferences, private practices, non-profit associations, retreat centers, and psychedelic research sponsors.

  • They provide trainings for clinicians, including the following:

    • Psychedelics 101 & 102

      • This 2-day training is designed for clinicians and healthcare providers who want to learn more about current psychedelic research and clinical practice, including how to work with patients who have a history of psychedelic use or have expressed an interest in using psychedelics. This interactive training includes role plays, demonstrations, case examples, and experiential learning opportunities.

        • Psychedelics 101: Your patients are curious and so are you: What is all this about psychedelics being used for treatment of addiction and trauma? This session gives an overview of psychedelic drugs, their history, and current research with MDMA and Psilocybin-assisted therapy. This program includes an overview of recent and current clinical trials, outcomes, legal status, and what it all means for the future of addiction and trauma treatment.

        • Psychedelics 102: This day introduces clinical skills for psychedelic harm reduction and integration work in the clinical setting. This program focuses on translating research findings into clinical practice including working with patients who are considering using psychedelics, actually using psychedelics, or have used them. Includes discussion of assessment and integration techniques, resources, and legal and ethical issues.

    • Psychedelic Integration Retreat

      • This 3-night retreat designed for clinicians and healthcare providers who want to learn more about current psychedelic research and clinical practice, including how to work with patients who have a history of psychedelic use or have expressed an interest in using psychedelics. This interactive training includes experiential learning, demonstrations, self-reflection, and role-play exercises. The themes of spirituality and ethics and critical discussion will be woven throughout the program with opportunities for connection, collaboration, and building community. This program covers the same essentials as Psychedelics 101 & 102.

    • Ketamine Integration for Clinicians

      • Ketamine has emerged in the last decade as a novel, highly efficacious, and currently available treatment for depression and mood disorders. This training is designed for clinicians and mental healthcare providers who want to gain a better framework for using ketamine therapy for mental health, as well as those who want to learn how this treatment can be incorporated into their existing clinical practices. In this course you will learn how to work with patients undergoing ketamine treatments and what is known about the combinations of ketamine and psychotherapy to improve long-term patient outcomes and wellbeing. This interactive training includes demonstrations, case examples, experiential learning, and role-play exercises. While ketamine is a powerful and at times life-saving tool, ensuring safe, effective treatment routes for patients is not as straightforward as writing a prescription.

      • This course is designed for clinicians in New York City, so Minnesota clinicians that are interested should keep that in mind in terms of how to translate that to an appropriate framework for your own practice here. The training will review the options available to practitioners looking to help their patients access this treatment and see them through the process of integrating it into ongoing psychotherapy and clinical care.
